live, this is kron4 news at 11:00. new details surrounding the death of osama bin laden. tonight, kron4 has the updated information about the last few minutes of the terror master mind's life. plus, when and if we'll see photographs of his corpse. first, developing news out of the east bay. police officers react after a suspect leads them on a chase then shoots up a patrol car. an entire pittsburg neighborhood was under lockdown as police searched for a suspect. the suspect was taken into custody within the last hour. the shooting happened near the intersection of railroad avenue and atlantic avenue in pittsburg. police say that's when the

suspect got out of his car and opened fire. reggie kumar joins us live with the latest on tonight's arrest. what happened? >> it's still a very active scene out here tonight. if you take a look behind me, you can see this is the area where police say dyrel jones of pittsburg was in the attic. he is a parolee and served time for armed robbery. take a look at this video. this is video of the stand-off. it just ended. jones came out of the home. he had his hands up in the air. he was immediately taken by ambulance to the hospital. he's suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. once he was taken into custody, officers stormed the house with their weapons drawn. this all started about 5:30 this evening. police were chasing the suspect in this cadillac. the chase ended at railroad and atlantic. investigators say jones got out of the gold car and shot at the

police officer who was in his squad car. you can see at least one window was hit several times by gunfire. the officer was not injured in this shooting. now, residents in this area were told to leave. here's what one had to say. >> they told us they were looking for a tall black dude and that we needed to evacuate our apartments while they did their search. >> jones was taken to a medical center. he faces a variety of charges at this point. the police officer was not hit by gunfire. he is doing okay tonight. again, the stand-off ended about an hour ago in this home behind that police tape. investigators still out here at the scene. again that man's name is dyrel jones. he is a parolee and did serve time for armed robbery. live in pittsburg, reggie kumar. >> another police chase, this one in oakland earlier today.

police are still searching for a suspect who fled from officers in a stolen vehicle. it started about 3:30 this afternoon. it ended with a crash near 82nd and rudsdale street. police say the suspected driver hit another car with a woman and two children inside. the children were slightly injured, the woman was taken to the hospital. oakland police say the one suspect is still at large. new at 11:00, a home invasion investigation led to the discovery of a large marijuana growing operation in the home of two elderly women in san bruno today. it happened on valley wood drive. a neighbor called police after seeing two men break into a home and then drive away in a bmw. police sigh they caught the two suspects in south san francisco. they say the two men were driving the bmw seen at the break-in. they found $12,000 in cash and packaging material for marijuana inside the car.

police then returned to the san bruno the home and they ended up arresting 72-year-old aleen lam. that after officers found 800 marijuana plants, $3,000 in cash and an electrical by-pass used to steal electricity from pg&e. all four suspects remain in jail tonight. current conditions are pretty mild around the bay area right now, in the upper 50s and low 60s for the most part. winds have pretty much died down, but they are going to pick up again into tomorrow afternoon for our hillside locations. 50 degrees in half moon bay is our coolest location at this hour, 69 in antioch, still pretty mild as i mentioned. as we head into tomorrow, here's what we're going to be seeing, those temperatures pretty warm for this hour so it's going to be mild tomorrow. breezy in the hills into the afternoon, and then much warmer into the later afternoon hours.

we're talking about maybe 20 degrees of warming tomorrow afternoon. we'll talk all about it and look at the temperatures neighborhood by neighborhood coming up in a bit. and now to the latest on the death of osama bin laden. government officials are trying to explain contradictory versions of how events unfolded inside bin laden's pakistani compound. in the last two days, the white house misidentified which of bin laden's sons was killed and also said that bin laden's wife died in gunfire even though she did not. white house officials say they are still sorting through the fog of combat to quickly provide an accurate account of the events. also, the cia director is emphasizing president obama gave the authorization to kill bin laden. news pinched was actually unwarmed at the time of the raid has raised questions about where the u.s. ever planned to capture him alive. and president obama is set to hold an observance at new york's ground zero on thursday. former president george w. bush

declined an invitation to join him, saying that he wishes to stay out of the spotlight. jamie yeman has more. >> reporter: people not yet convinced osama bin laden is really dead may soon get the proof they need. tuesday, the cia director says he thinks the photographs of the al-qaeda leader's body will be released, adding that the white house will have the final say. >> i'm sure that the nature of the photos themselves, it could, in fact, be used to try to develop the revengeful nature of what al-qaeda's all about. >> reporter: meanwhile, we're learning more about the 40- minute raid on the pakistani compound. a top white house official says bin laden may have lived undetected for as long as six years. administration officials say the bin laden family and two other families lived at the compound. they found bin laden on the 2nd floor unarmed. >> a woman rather, bin laden's

wife rushed the u.s. assaulter and was shot in the leg but not killed. bin laden was then shot and killed. >> reporter: ahead of the mission, a defense official says the special operations force responsible for bin laden's takedown practiced extensively on a replica of the compound and came to know every aspect of its exterior. the team wasn't told its target was osama bin laden. in the nation's capital tuesday, vice-president joe biden praised the mission. >> it was a staggering undertaking and there was no one else i believe other than an american group of military warriors who could do it. >> we are expecting president obama to come visit ground zero here on thursday. he invited former president george bush but bush declined the invitation. we are getting new information about the elite military team that was sent in to take out osama bin laden. an in-depth look at seal team six, that's coming up later in

tonight, several hundred people in oakland turned out to rally against the state's attempt to enforce more than $20 million in fines the oakland school district owes the state. they are supporting a bill, ab609 which would eliminate those fines. the superintendent, board members, parents, students and teachers showed up for the mass rally. organizers say the fines would only lead to more cuts for oakland's students. >> today in this funding crisis that everyone's having, our students are are paying even more because we're paying for the finds that were levied under state receivership years ago. i really think that the main purpose of tonight's event is for everyone here in the audience to understand how urgent this issue around funding for our schools is. >> oakland's school district was put under state control back in 2003. the measure goes before an assembly committee tomorrow

they are the elite of the elite. the navy's top secret warrior force known as seal team six. the shadowy command force is getting credit for killing osama bin laden. we are learning new details about how they were able to carry out this mission impossible without a single casualty. >> reporter: navy seal team six was born out of failure. more than 30 years ago, an american effort to rescue the american hostages in iran ended disastrously when two aircrafts collided in the desert. seal team six was created to be the country's first full-time counterterrorism unit. its members come from underwater demolition teams and

other seal units. only a handful make it through the rigorous training. it can go on around the clock for six days straight. the seven-month course includes unarmed combat, defensive and offensive driving, diving, training in survival, evasion, resistance and escape. any candidate not performing to the heist level is returned to his previous unit. seal team six was deployed to somalia, taking part in the desperate part for a trade in the film blackhawk down. they were back in the horn of africa, taking down the pirates who had hijacked an american tanker with three sniper shots. the seals have been in afghanistan for nearly 10 years. in 2008, they successfully rescued an american businessman held by a warlord west of the capital. last october, they were sent to rescue a scottish aid worker, held hostage by the taliban.

rafael but still very much on the warm side at 81 degrees. closer to the coast line, temperatures warming to the 70s coastside. hopping over the peninsula into the low 80s. also, mainly in the low 80s for the east bay shores. 85 degrees in castro valley and inland, quite a warmup out there tomorrow in the low 90s in a number of places, 91 in walnut creek, 92 in pleasantten, upper 80s for the delta and in the south bay, temperatures mainly in the upper 80s. 86 in santa clara, 89 in morgan hill. a look at your kron4 seven-day around-the-bay forecast for the warming trend, it got underway today, really getting underway tomorrow and especially into thursday, we're going to continue to see those very hot temperatures, inland valleys, upper 80s. those winds will return, fog will be back along the coastline, temperatures will be much cooler and that cooling trend will continue into the weekend. and now a look at other big stories covered by our kron4

news crews around the bay area today. pg&e has discovered a defect with a small number of its smart meters. the meters will overcharge some customers if they became too hot, reaching temperatures above 100 degrees. pg&e will give refunds of about $40 to the 1,600 customers who have defective meters in northern and central california. icate thompson, kron4 news. the city decided it will not move forward with its interim fix that was intended to stabilize some of those houses. they would have put pillarsunder the houses that are at the top of the hill and they would have moved mud away from the houses at the bottom of the hill. it would have cost about $150,000, but the residents hired an attorney, they made some changes to that proposal and the city decided not to move forward. kron4 news. here in san jose, the latest budget numbers paint a

game picture for city workers closing a $115 million budget deficit could empath as many as 588 workers, through attrition. that includes 195 sworn police officers and 64 firefighters. the ever-increasing cost of retirement pensions, the city is asking employees to take a 10% pay cut. in san jose, kron4 news. in sports, a hobbled and humbled giants try to get it together in new york, first against the mets today and a no- hitter is pitched by a very unlikely candidate and a former giant minor leaguer. gary is next with all the sports. ♪ let's go out to the dmv
